Northumberland Wedding Photography – The Barn on the Bay

As a busy Northumberland wedding photographer, I get to work at all the best Northumberland wedding venues, and this is certainly the case when I return to be a Barn on the Bay wedding photographer. Check out Ben & Izzi's real wedding HERE. Druridge Bay is miles of unspoilt coastline as far as the eye can see. It’s pristine sand and drifting dunes make it both a beautiful and peaceful setting for walkers, photographers and artists as well as a magnet for birdlife and wildlife. Sitting on the bay is The Barn in the Bay, a stunning wedding venue that uniquely offers couples a barn, a beach and a farm wedding venue all in one location. For those looking for a beach wedding. You can say your vows overlooking the sea. The Barn on the Bay have a fantastic private space overlooking the sea and the sand dunes.

Your guests are seated facing out towards the sea and you say your vows in front of the seascape to the sound of lapping waves, with a gentle breeze running through your hair. Oh, and keep a look out for dolphins, they can be spotted daily from this stretch of the beach, so may make an appearance on your day. It’s a truly unique location for a wedding ceremony. And the sea makes a romantic and dramatic backdrop in the wedding photos. Beach wedding ceremonies at The Barn on the bay have capacity for up to 150 seated guests.

Experienced Barn on the bay wedding photographer

If you literally want to say ‘I do’ with the sand between your toes, the team at Barn on the Bay have a vendor who can set up your wedding ceremony to take place right on the beach. For indoor wedding ceremonies, their large cow shed wedding barn has a wonderfully industrial vibe as it is a working cow barn in the winter. Giving you a barn that manages to have an industrial feel and rustic charm all at the same time. It has a license to hold civil ceremonies and capacity to easily seat up to 200 guests plus additional guests in the evening. Making it perfect for large and Asian weddings. Set up with clearly defined areas for the bar, a separate cocktail bar and drinks cabinet, dinner and dancing spaces, plus room for games, a photobooth and straw bale sofas. You have everything you need for an epic wedding. Or you can choose an outdoor ceremony on the farm with a wedding ceremony in their Paddock that enjoys gorgeous views of the Northumberland countryside. Expect some of Barn on the Bay’s curious alpacas to come and say hello! If the weather is looking unsettled, they can erect tents in the paddock area to ensure that a bit of rain doesn’t spoil anything.
For intimate weddings, Barn on the Bay now offer Calico Barn. New for 2023, this small stone barn is ideal for small weddings and elopements for up to 20 guests. A converted cart shed, it has space for a ceremony, dinner and dancing. It also doubles up as guest
accommodation for larger weddings. Other venues I work at close to barn on the bay are Alnwick Gardens & Ellingham Hall.

Storytelling wedding photography at The Barn on the Bay

Drinks receptions take place in the paddocks and/or on the verandah. Guests can enjoy a drink from the horse box bar and with exclusive use, can really explore the venue. The resident alpacas are naturally curious about guests and often choose to make an appearance at this stage in the day. Another thing I love when I capture wedding photography at Barn on the Bay, are festival
and boho style weddings. You have all the space you need to have music, both live bands and DJ’s set up in different areas of the farm and even on the beach. And with exclusive use and no neighbours to worry about, you can really lose yourselves in the celebrations.

Wedding breakfasts take place in the Cow Shed and the team offer a variety of different layouts and table decorations according to your wishes. When it comes to food, the ethos of food to fork dining is at the heart of Barn on the Bay’s approach to weddings. They pride themselves on creating exciting wedding menus with food that is sourced honestly, ethically, sustainably, locally and seasonally. Sourcing ingredients from their kitchen garden wherever possible. When I capture wedding photography at Barn on the Bay, I love it when the sun goes down and the venue is lit for the evening. The team at Barn on the Bay offer a gas fired pit on the verandah surrounded with chairs, tiki torches line the paddock fence and tower flame heaters are placed inside the cowshed barn. It gives a magical and cosy vibe to the evening celebrations and makes for fantastic evening wedding photos.

Creative and Natural Northumberland wedding photography

When it comes to guest accommodation, Barn on the Bay have a fun 16-bed bunk barn and 6 double camping pods. Charming Poppy Cottage sleeps 4 and Calico Barn a further 6 guests. Both of which make great spaces for the wedding party to prepare on the day. There’s enough accommodation to host your entire wedding party. Barn on the Bay also offer areas for glamping and camping allowing all guests to stay overnight if they wish. The team at Barn on the Bay pride themselves on taking a bespoke approach to each
wedding, they listen to your vision of your day and deliver it, welcoming you and your guests like old friends rather than customers.
The Barn on the Bay really is a stunning wedding venue but you don’t have to take my word for it. The most fun part of planning a wedding is getting to visit amazing wedding venues in brilliant locations. So have fun with it.
