Healey Barn is a large 18th century stone and oak barn set around a private sunny courtyard situated in the stunning County durham countryside. What I especially love about capturing wedding photography at Healey Barn is that it is a barn wedding venue that manages to tick all of the boxes. It is both rustic and modern, both spacious and cosy. And being less than 20 miles from Newcastle it’s rural yet accessible. The Healey Barn buildings were converted by Cripps & Co in 2015 to create a luxury wedding venue. For summer weddings the doors open out onto a sunny courtyard, not only
blending indoor and outdoor spaces, but flooding the space with tons of natural light. Us Northumberland wedding photographers can never have too much natural light. For winter weddings the underfloor heating and large stone fireplace create a cosy vibe,
which when you add the fairy lights woven into the oak ceilings and over 100 flickering candles is a simply magical setting for a wedding. Healey Barn is licensed to host civil ceremonies with capacity for up to 144 seated guests. If you’d prefer an outdoor ceremony, their charming courtyard can host civil ceremonies for up to 60 guests. Or, if you’re looking for a more traditional ceremony there are several churches close by.

Wedding breakfasts take place in Healey Barn’s stunning dining room. Carrying on the theme in the main barn it has oak post frames and one slide is fully glazed offering uninterrupted view of the pretty courtyard. It can seat up to 140 guests for a wedding
breakfast. Talking of food, the team at Healey Barn pride themselves on their wedding feasts. Food isflame cooked from fresh ingredients on a huge BBQ and French rotisseries in full view of the guests, creating a fantastic vibe. Healey Barn are renowned for their tasty food and generous portions. When you book your wedding at Healey Barn you work with their in-house chefs
to create a bespoke wedding menu tailored around what you want. When I capture wedding photography at Healey Barns, I always love capturing images on the courtyard. Sheltered from the wind by barn buildings on all sides, the sun-filled courtyard
provides a large additional space for post-ceremony drinks and an excellent location for wedding photographs. The courtyard is transformed at night with lanterns, fire pits and fairy lit trees. For your evening celebrations the main barn can accommodate up to 200 guests, so large weddings are no problem at Healey Barn. Add to that live music, a DJ, tasty evening food and an enviable 1am late license and you have everything you need for an epic wedding celebration.

There is no accommodation on site however, just one mile away you will find Healey Hall that offers its adjoining cottages as guest accommodation. It can sleep up to 34 guests in 17 beautifully appointed rooms. So enough to accommodate the wedding party. Healey Barn also makes the perfect place for the wedding party to get ready. And for me to take those all- important preparation images.
Nearby there’s plenty of hotels, cosy pub ins, boutique B&B’s and Airbnb accommodation for guests looking to stay over.
