As a busy Yorkshire wedding photographer, I get to work at all the best Yorkshire wedding venues, and this is certainly the case when I return to be a Sheriff Hutton wedding photographer. Grade II listed 14th century Sheriff Hutton Castle was, at one time, considered to be the grandest castle in northern England. The favourite residence of both Richard III and Henry VIII and a favourite location today for filming companies. It’s a truly unique and memorable location for a fairy-tale castle wedding in Yorkshire. When I capture wedding photography at Sheriff Hutton Castle, I love summer weddings there as couples get a marquee included in the price, allowing them to party amongst the majestic ruins. The magical Sounding Hall is 600 years old and is licensed to host civil ceremonies for up to 60 guests. A blank canvas to be dressed however you like. When I capture Sheriff Hutton Castle wedding photography, I love it when couples have it pared back adding flowers and foliage, and tons of candles to the strings of fairy lights lighting up the stone walls.

A word of advice, castles were built as fortified buildings and consequently have small windows and thick dark walls. This makes them dark spaces internally. You will need to use an experienced photographer who really understands how to use flash photography. Ideally one who has captured wedding photography at Sheriff Hutton Castle before. Drinks and canapes receptions take place on the beautiful large courtyard that enjoys spectacular views over the ruins. You get this space for two hours which his plenty of time for you and your guests to soak up the environment. And plenty of time for me to capture amazing images of you two and your guests. Wedding receptions and evening celebrations take place in a marquee that is included in the hire. This really is a blank canvas that you can add your style and personality to. When I capture wedding photography at Sheriff Hutton Castle, I’m always curious to see what my clients have done with it. Sheriff Hutton Castle is an exclusive use venue. Because it is largely an outdoor venue it only hosts weddings from April to October. To talk a little more about the accommodation. Sheriff Hutton Castle has four beautiful locations on site for intimate guest accommodation that you can book through Airbnb. Each can sleep 2 guests and are cosy, charming and unique. There’s the Shepherd’s Hut, Castle Lodge, Castle Court and Castle View. Special rates are offered for weddings. There’s also lots of accommodation in the village of Sheriff Hutton and in York which is a 25-minute drive away.
