THINKING OF HAVING YOUR WEDDING IN CUMBRIA?

As a Yorkshire based wedding photographer, I frequently head north of the border to capture wedding photography in Cumbria. England’s most north westerly county bordering with Scotland, Cumbria is well known for its natural beauty with much of the county’s landscape designated as areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Characterised by having England’s most striking landscape, as well as picturesque stone-built towns, and historical houses and gardens to visit. The world-famous lake district is of such significance it has been awarded UNESCO world heritage status.

Formerly a source of inspiration to writers like William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, Cumbria could be the inspiration for your wedding. Needless to say, there are some amazing wedding venues in Cumbria. Something to suit every wedding style, taste and budget. Below are some of my favourites:

HIDDEN RIVER BARN

Hidden River Barn is a private estate situated in the secluded Cumbrian countryside. This unusual barn wedding venue sits in ancient woodland by a riverbank that make perfect backdrops for a couple’s wedding day photoshoot. The barn has been carefully designed to be ideal for weddings of 50 to 250 guests and is perfect for all seasons with two roaring fires and underfloor heating in Autumn and Winter and air conditioning in summer. And outside all year around, nature provides its own natural adornment. The two-storey barn has clever lighting in the form of 11 chandeliers that can be set to suit the mood and ceiling to floor windows that throw tons of light in.

Hidden River Barn’s talented team of in-house chefs work with you to create a bespoke wedding menu that will wow your guests. Accommodation is in the form of six luxurious log cabins each with their own hot tub and a farmhouse with luxury en-suite bedrooms. When I captured wedding photography at Hidden River Barn for Sian and Grant, I loved the images I got of them by the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the woodland. And later on in the day, I had so much fun capturing the dance floor antics. Here, take a look!

Holesfoot is perfect for you if you’re looking for a beautiful and secluded wedding venue in Cumbria. Situated in the enchanting Eden Valley area of the Lake District, Holesfoot offer a host of beautiful locations to hold wedding ceremonies. You can get married in their beautiful stone walled barn, in one of the rooms of their renovated Grade II listed Georgian-meets-Victorian manor house. Or you can choose an outdoor ceremony in their idyllic Italian Garden Terrace, in the walled garden or even in their bluebell filled woodlands. You get to mix and match the spaces for weddings to create a bespoke wedding that can accommodate up to 160 guests.

Holesfoot is a destination wedding venue, offering a three-night weekend wedding packages (two nights for week day weddings) with on-site accommodation for you and your guests (up to 50) The accommodation comprises of their manor house, Bakehouse, Coach House, Cottage and Bell Tents.

When I capture wedding photography at Holesfoot, I love capturing bridal preparation photos in their bridal suite. A spacious dressing room with a private patio, garden and hot tub!

BARN IN THE FELLS

Town Head Estate is perfect for those looking for a waterfront Lake District wedding. Sitting on the shores of Lake Windermere, this 130-acre estate enjoys extensive grounds with half a mile of private lake frontage, a Victorian boathouse, a jetty, a walled garden, an original glasshouse, a fully restored wedding barn and a brand-new luxury wedding yacht!

The wedding barn is a traditional two storey stone barn that has been cleverly restored to discretely offer hi-end modern luxury in a luxe rustic barn setting. The upper floor is an open space for wedding ceremonies and wedding breakfasts and can seat up to 120 guests. On the lower level is a stylish bar and a separate lounge area with comfy seating.

Guest accommodation is in the form of three gorgeous cottages that can accommodate up to 22 guests so enough for your wedding party. And the perfect place for morning of the wedding preparations.

The waterfront location means that you can arrive by boat, incorporate a boat trip for your guests into your wedding day, or hop on board ‘Marguerite’ their luxury wedding yacht with your wedding photographer, for a tour and a photoshoot around Lake Windermere. Offering you something that most other Cumbria wedding venues simply can’t!
