THINKING OF HAVING YOUR WEDDING IN NEWCASTLE?

As a Yorkshire based wedding photographer, I frequently head north of the border to capture wedding photography in Newcastle. This dynamic city sits in a stunning quayside setting and is home to a famous football club, a lively student scene, tons of unique bars and award-winning restaurants. And has a famously vibrant nightlife (If you’re looking for a night out on the ‘toon’)

But what you may not know is that it also has tons of fascinating and historically rich architecture, gorgeous parks, countless museums and galleries, famous street markets, quirky independent shops and an eclectic music scene. All delivered to you with their trademark Geordie welcome. Wey aye.

Needless to say, there are some amazing wedding venues in Newcastle. Something to suit every wedding style, taste and budget. Below are just three of my favourites.

WYLAM BREWERY

Wylam Brewery, yes you heard it right - you can get married in a brewery! Wylam Brewery is located in the fashionable setting of Newcastle’s Exhibition Park. A tranquil space with countryside views that benefits from a city centre location.

Wylam Brewery’s Grand Hall is a truly unique space for a wedding. Rustic and classic, its distinct architecture allows you to say your vows under the impressive domed ceiling. And with capacity to host 200 guests seated and up to a whopping 800 standing it’s perfect for large and/or Asian weddings.

Their talented team of in-house chefs pride themselves on serving traditional British classics with a modern twist perfectly matched with craft beer brewed on-site.

For your evening celebrations they have three bars and a gin palace for drinks that can be washed down with tasty street food. Wylam Brewery don’t offer guest accommodation, but the venues enviable city centre location means that there’s a host of hotels, boutique B&B’s and Airbnb accommodation just a stone’s throw away.

JESMOND DENE HOUSE

Jesmond Dene House is a Grade II listed luxury boutique hotel in the fashionable Jesmond area just a short walk from the city centre. Independently owned, it was built in 1822 and has a rich history of entertaining royalty, celebrities and now maybe your wedding!

When I capture wedding photography at Jesmond Dene House, I love the fact that it sits within a narrow-wooded valley that follows the river Ouseburn that has waterfalls and rustic bridges. The perfect location for a romantic photoshoot.

Jesmond Dene House is licensed to host weddings for up to 114 guests in any of their four private rooms that are all brimming with period features and old-world charm. Or you can choose to have an outdoor wedding on the terrace or in their secret garden.

When it comes to food, Jesmond Dene House boasts its own two AA rosette restaurant onsite. So, it’s fair to say your wedding food is in safe and experienced hands. And with 44 beautifully appointed en-suite rooms for guests to stay in nobody needs to head home at the end of the night! Check out Jess & Jonnys wedding HERE.

BLACK FRIARS

Blackfriars dates right back to 1239 when it was established as a Dominican friary and stands to this day as one of the cities finest medieval buildings. This Grade I listed stone building is laid out in a horseshoe shape surrounding a sheltered courtyard. Creating a tranquil space right in the heart of the city.

The venue is licensed to host weddings and civil ceremonies in their banqueting hall and their tasting room. Blackfriars medieval Banqueting Hall has been lovingly and authentically restored with antler chandeliers, stained glass windows, bespoke banners and large oak dining tables and chair designed and built using traditional methods by local craftsmen. It has capacity for 65 standing guests and 50 seated.

For smaller more intimate wedding ceremonies, you can choose to have your wedding ceremony in Blackfriars Tasting Room. A truly unique room with original 19th century seating in two concentric circles. It’s perfect for weddings of up to 20 guests. Reception drinks take place in the courtyard when the weather allows or in the atmospheric Parlour Bar. Food is provided in-house and as their famed for their gastronomic experiences prepared to be wowed. Their experienced wedding team are on hand to take you through every aspect of planning your wedding and are with you on the day to ensure everything runs smoothly.
